Carbon dioxide emission in the cement indus

ABSTRACT
The cement industry features economy of individual world countries. In 2002 the world-wide cement production was 1670 M tonnes, out of which 15.1 M tonnes in Poland. Applied technology of production causes that the cement industry emits significant amounts of greenhouse gases. The cement industry is responsible for 3% of global greenhouse gases emission (1400 M tonnes of CO2 - equivalent). The cement industry is responsible for approximately 5% of global manmade emissions. This paper presents the sources of CO2 emission from cement industry and possible directions emission reduction. It also notices the signature of the Protocol CO2 by Working Group Cement World Business Council for Sustainable Development.

Przemysł cementowy ma istotną rolę w rozwoju gospodarki poszczególnych krajów świata. W 2002 r. produkcja cementu w świecie wynosiła ponad 1,67 mld ton, w tym 15,1 mln ton w Polsce. Ze względu na stosowaną technologię produkcji cementu, przemysł ten jest źródłem emisji gazów cieplarnianych. Udział przemysłu cementowego w globalnej emisji gazów cieplarnianych wynosi około 3%, co stanowi 1,4 mld ton ekwiwalentu CO2. Udział emisji CO2 przez przemysł cementowy stanowi 5% globalnej emisji CO2 powstałej w wyniku działalności człowieka. W artykule przedstawiono źródła emisji CO2 w przemyśle cementowym. Wskazano możliwe kierunki zmniejszenia tej emisji. Zwrócono także uwagę na podpisany Protokół CO2 Przemysłu Cementowego opracowany przez Grupę Roboczą ds. Cementu funkcjonującą w World Business Council for Sustainable Development.
