The paper presents the description, methodology and results of the statistical survey of cogeneration, prepared for the European Commission in accordance with the Directive 2004/8/EC. The Directive obliges the EU Member States to prepare annually the statistical information on national electricity and heat production from cogeneration, including also the statistics on cogeneration capacities and on fuels used for cogeneration. Poland already implemented the required survey for the years 2002-2003, and the information for the year 2004 is under preparation. The paper describes: general characteristics of the survey, ethodology of data collection and aggregation, contents of the created data base, difficulties in the implementation of the survey, numerical results of the survey, project results and points for future work. The paper contains also the result tables for the year 2003, which constitute the detailed picture of Polish cogeneration sector in the light of the requirements of the Directive 2004/8/EC.
